On January 22nd, students from Sawyer's Martial Arts competed in Waterbury, CT at the first Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation challenge. The tournament divisions consisted of both weapons and sparring categories. Mr. Thibodeau, Mr. Kowalski, Mr. Welcome, Mr. Welcome (Brothers), Mr. Beadle, Ms. Goldfarb, Ms. Fluckiger,  Master Johnson and Master Hinman all competed at the tournament. Master Sawyer's students all did exceptionally well. In fact, each student who competed took home trophies for their respective divisions!

Congratulations to everyone who went and competed. Your representation of the school and your training was superb!

Great job to everyone who came and tested! Their family and friends were there in numbers watching and supporting them. Comments and praise were heard around the room for each student.

We have updated our events calendar to reflect the 2012 schedule for the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation, as well as the 2012 Sparring Collaboration dates. Sawyer's Martial Arts belt gradings will be announced and posted closer to their respective event dates. Have a warm and happy holiday, we'll can't wait to see what 2012 brings us! Tang Soo!

A Federation wide black belt test took place this past Friday, December 2 at the Waterbury Boys and Girls Club. Students traveled across many states to participate in the event. Sawyer's Martial Arts student Heather Fenn was amongst them.

We are proud to announce that Ms. Fenn worked very hard and brought home her new rank of 3rd Dan black belt! She did a great job at the test - remaining focused and disciplined. Be sure to extend congratulations to her in class.

Last evening, three students from Sawyer's Martial Arts traveled to Headquarters for 4th Degree Master Belt tests. Each student performed phenomenally at the grading and received their master belt certificates. Congratulations to Master Kane, Master Hinman and Master Johnson on their promotions. They are not only the first group of students from Sawyer's Martial Arts to receive this title, but they are also the largest group from the same school to test at the same time! Great job!

In order to better fit our students needs and schedules, we have changed the times on our Saturday classes. These changes start effective September 17. Here are the new times:

Kids: 9:30-10:15AM
Adult: 10:15-11:15AM - Open Workout

This past weekend Master Sawyer, along with assistance Mr. Hinman and Ms. Johnson, taught a sparring seminar at Grand Master Cheezic's annual Karate Camp. Over 150 students attended his seminar which covered a variety of useful topics including ring ettiquette, strategy, and timing techniques.  Students also practiced moves and sparring scenarios designed to improve on their abilities.
